Can anyone of you tell me what the (vocalised) Hebrew form of imperfect, third person singular of "hear" (of the root sh-m-Ayn) is?

Thank you very much
There are two, masculine and feminine. 3 m sg ישמע yeesh-ma (he will hear) 3 f sg תשמע teesh-ma (she will hear)

...which you would of course need to prefix with the pronoun:

הוא ישמע (he will hear)
היא תשמע (she will hear)

נכון?

Am I right in assuming that the "a" of -shma is a Patakh?

Tank you very much

I suppose you could say הוא ישמע but actually there is no need of the pronoun. The conjugation of the verb gives it the proper form of he or she.

The "a" is patakh or as I would say pathach (פתח) as the ת is without dagesh and the last letter is cheth not כ or ק. In Biblical Hebrew the sound is like "a" in bat or cat, In modern it seems to be the same as qamets "a" as in father.
Ah, thank you very much for your help.
